DataNest

Privacy policy

Your workspace stays under your control.

This policy describes how DataNest processes information when you use the app, optional iCloud sync, and membership features.

Effective July 16, 2026Updated July 16, 2026

Overview

DataNest is designed as a local-first application. You do not need to create a DataNest-hosted account to use the app. The current standard release does not expose Sign in with Apple and does not use an in-app Apple identity to own or locate your workspace, iCloud data, or membership. If an Apple-linked identity feature is enabled in a future release, this policy will be updated before that feature is made available.

DataNest does not include advertising SDKs, third-party behavioral analytics SDKs, or a developer-operated analytics or crash-reporting service. It does not operate a developer-hosted service that receives or stores the contents of your workspace.

Workspace and backup data

Your collection definitions, fields, records, field values, relations, preferences, deletion metadata, timestamps, and local backups are stored in the app's container on your device by default. Because you choose what to enter, workspace content may include personal or sensitive information. DataNest processes this content to provide editing, relations, search, data-quality checks, import, export, backup, and restore features.

Local backups are ZIP archives that contain workspace JSON and per-collection data. DataNest can also export selected data in CSV, JSON, or XLSX formats. When you import, save, or share a file, the file provider or destination you select through the operating system may process it under that provider's terms. DataNest does not control that destination, so exported files should be protected accordingly.

Optional iCloud sync

DataNest may check whether iCloud is available and keep a CloudKit account-scoped identifier locally to detect when the system iCloud account changes. iCloud sync is off by default, and workspace content is not uploaded to CloudKit unless sync is enabled and a sync operation runs. When it runs, DataNest sends the workspace records needed for synchronization to Apple's CloudKit service. Those records are stored in the private CloudKit database associated with the system iCloud account on your device. Apple processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy.

iCloud sync is optional and can be disabled in DataNest settings. Disabling sync stops new synchronization but does not by itself erase copies that already exist on the device or in iCloud.

Membership and purchases

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. DataNest does not receive your full payment-card details. The app uses RevenueCat to retrieve product offerings, confirm purchase and subscription status, restore purchases, and determine whether Pro features should be available. This service check may occur when the app launches, including when you have not made a purchase.

For these purposes, the current integration lets RevenueCat generate a random, pseudonymous App User ID and process product and transaction information, entitlement status, app and device metadata, and network information involved in providing its service. DataNest does not send workspace content, an Apple sign-in identity, an email address, a name, or custom customer attributes to RevenueCat. It does not use RevenueCat information to identify the owner of a workspace or to route iCloud data.

Diagnostics and support

Apple may provide developers with crash or performance diagnostics when you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings. Those diagnostics are controlled by Apple's platform settings and may include technical information about the app, device, and failure. DataNest also stores limited operational information, such as sync settings, timestamps, summaries, and error messages, locally on the device.

If you contact support by email, the email providers involved process the address, message, and attachments you choose to provide under their own policies. Do not send workspace exports, backups, receipts, Apple ID details, or sensitive records unless strictly necessary.

Your choices and controls

Deleting the app normally removes its local container from that device. Before deleting the app, verify that you have a current export or a synchronized copy if you want to keep the workspace. iCloud data and exported files may remain separately and must be managed through the relevant app or platform controls.

Retention

The active local workspace remains on the device until you delete content, clear the workspace, or remove the app. Clearing the workspace creates and retains a safety backup. Local backups remain until you delete them individually, they are pruned under the backup policy you selected, or the app's local container is removed. Synchronized records remain subject to your iCloud settings and Apple's retention practices. App Store and RevenueCat purchase records may be retained as needed to provide entitlements, restore purchases, prevent fraud, meet legal obligations, and maintain service records.

Children

DataNest is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed to children. The app does not knowingly operate a service designed to collect children's personal information.

International processing

Apple, RevenueCat, and the email providers involved in support communications may process information in countries other than your own according to their service infrastructure, contracts, and privacy policies.

Policy changes

This policy may be updated when DataNest features, platform services, or legal requirements change. The effective and updated dates at the top of this page identify the current version.
